Why I Went to Boulder
In 2007, I had an opportunity to go to Boulder , CO to a place called the Peaceful Meadow Retreat. Since returning, a lot of my friends and family members have been asking me why I went and what I did while I was there. Well, I didn't go there for your typical kind of retreat. However, in order for me to explain why I went, I need to give you a little background.
As most of you know, I've been studying naturopathic alternatives like herbs, aromatherapy, the Emotional Freedom Technique, and other forms of complementary treatments for over the past 30 years. When my nephew, Nick, came to me last year and asked if I knew of an alternative to the extremely harmful drug, Accutane, I intuitively took him to a local health food store. Nick was 18 at the time and had a severe case of acne, but said that the side effects of the drug seemed worse than having the acne.
When we walked into the store, we were greeted by Bob who is one of the owners. I asked Bob if he knew of something that would help Nick with his acne. He said yes, and we followed him to the back room. Bob then took out a rather thick book and a shiny silver pendulum. He then sat down and had Nick sit down next to him while he asked the pendulum questions from the book. Whenever he got a "yes" response from the pendulum, he had me write down a word or two out of the book.
After going through one part of the book to learn the cause of Nick's acne, he then went to another part of the book to figure out the best course of treatment. Again, whenever he got a "yes" response, he had me write down a word or two from the book. After getting a list of about seven different remedies for the various causes of his acne, we went out into the store and took each herbal and homeopathic remedy off the shelf that was needed. He then had Nick hold each remedy and he tested each one to see if it was the correct treatment for his acne. He added some and took away others until we got a yes response for everything. He then tested to see how long before Nick would start seeing improvement after using these remedies. The response that he got was 10 days.
Seven days after that experience at the health food store, I contacted Nick and asked if there had been any improvement in his skin. He was excited to report that the huge boils that were on his face were going away. I was THRILLED and so was he. Week after week, Nick's skin got better. And, week after week, I knew that I needed to learn more about what it was exactly that Bob had done. I also knew that I HAD TO HAVE THAT BOOK and a pendulum.
By the way, I didn't mention that Nick had more than just a normal case of acne. He had HUGE boils on his face, his neck, and on his back. Bob's dowsing told us that the primary cause of those boils was due to a pork worm lodged in Nick's lungs. He also found that Nick had a staph infection that was causing much of the acne and that every time Nick used the same towel to wipe his face, he was re-infecting himself.
It was soon after this experience with Nick that I took my first Hanna Kroeger class in Boulder, CO. I became a certified Hanna Kroeger Practitioner and a dowser. I was so moved by the experience at Peaceful Meadow that I also became an ordained minister. Since then, I've been dowsing and using kinesiology to help others to discover the possible causes of their dis-ease. However, I will always continue to give God the glory for the many gifts given to ALL of us. I believe that God hasn't given us anything that He/She hasn't already given us the cure for. That cure is actually in our own backyard. We just have to know how to find it.
God Bless You All.

About Hanna Kroeger
Hanna was born on October 5th, 1913 in Turkey. She was raised and home schooled by her parents who were German missionaries in charge of an orphanage. Hanna learned all about herbs, poultices, baths and soups from her mother. She learned how to teach people how to help themselves by her father.
At age 16, she left home to work as an interpreter for a naturopathic doctor where she soon learned more about herbal remedies and natural ways of healing. Her parents wanted her to become a nun, but she felt that she could help more people as a nurse. After going to nursing school, she soon found herself working with another naturopathic doctor and his methods became the basis for many of Hanna’s remedies in later years.
Hanna married Rudolf Kroeger in 1938. They had four children and settled down in Germany. However, just 14 days before the end of World War II, Hanna’s husband was captured by the Russians and he spent the next 5 years in a Russian concentration camp.
In 1949, unable to walk, the Russian’s sent Rudolf home on a train. Hanna took him immediately to the hospital where they gave him only 24 hours to live. Hanna refused to let him die in the hospital, so she took him home and started treating him using all of the remedies she had been taught over the years. As Rudolf got better, he asked Hanna to get him as far away from Russia as possible.
She sold everything they had and moved the family to the United States. They ended up in Boulder, CO in 1956. One year after moving to Boulder, Hanna opened up a health food store. Soon, she started carrying vitamins, herbs, homeopathic remedies and began holding meetings in the back of the store.
In 1972, the AMA and FDA sent detectives to her store to entrap her. She was tried and convicted of practicing medicine without a license, but the charges were dropped on her promise to “not do this again.” Since she felt that she wasn’t “practicing medicine”, she went back to her store to continue helping people the only way she knew how. Because of the publicity of the trial, huge lines formed every day to see her. In order to insulate herself from the increasing powers of the FDA and AMA, she became an ordained minister and created her own church, The Chapel of Miracles.
Many of Hanna’s herbal combinations were divinely inspired. When people came to her with a problem that she wasn’t able to immediately solve, she studied as much as possible about the problem, used scientific books and consulted doctors throughout the country. When that didn’t work, she turned the problem over to God and Jesus. Within days, she would have the formula.
As she got older, and, as pressure from the District Attorney mounted, she decided to stay home and help people over the telephone from her Peaceful Meadow Retreat. She was in her glory writing books, teaching, and giving seminars. However, after Rudolf died in 1997, she had no appetite and missed him terribly. They say that she died of a broken heart on May 7, 1998.
Two years later, her daughter, Gisela, and a few of Hanna’s students picked up where Hanna left off. Hanna believed that we are in a health crisis in this country and that we need to help one another if we’re going to survive. She would always say, “I cannot do it alone. You must help one another. You, you, and you must and can do it.”
I believe I am now following in Hanna's footsteps. If you are interested in having a Aura Reading done the way Hanna used to do it, please contact me.
I look forward to talking with you.

The Pendulum
What is a pendulum? A basic dowsing pendulum is a weight suspended by a flexible chain or a string. It can be as simple as a wedding ring with a string around it. Once trained on how to use it, you can get answers to most anything. The pendulum will swing in one direction to give you a negative response and the opposite direction for a positive response.
Use of the pendulum is like learning how to play an instrument. It requires constant practice. Making mistakes is part of the learning process. You should not use the pendulum for egotistic reasons. The pendulum should only be used for the well being of others or yourself.
Using the pendulum in this way is known as dowsing. There is evidence, by some accounts, of dowsing dating as far back as 5,000 to 8,000 years ago in the Orient and also by the early Egyptians. Historically, dowsing is known for its ability to locate water, gold, oil and other minerals. Native American Indians also used it, usually to find water. You may have seen someone using two sticks to find water underground, or, in some cases, only one stick was used. That’s also dowsing and is based on the same principles as the pendulum which I’ll tell you about shortly.
In France, Germany, England and Russia, physicians use the pendulum to make diagnoses. Throughout Europe, the use of the pendulum is officially considered to be a science known as Radiesthesia, or in French “Radiesthesie”. Many people use the pendulum to detect allergies and other ailments. However, it can and has been used for many, many things. In some cases, dowsing has saved lives. In other cases, it’s been said that dowsing has been used for “evil” purposes.
In Vietnam, U.S. marines were taught to use a pendulum to locate underground mines & tunnels. When a well known American pendulist was able to show the U.S. Navy not only where all of the Russian submarines were, but also gave the location of every US submarine, he was considered a national security risk and was forbidden to leave the United States.
How does it work? Well, some say that it works much the same way as a radio picks up unseen radio waves. The pendulum works like an antenna that receives information from vibrations and energy waves emitted by people, thoughts, places, and things.
Some people like Albert Einstein believe that it has to do with electromagnetism. There is electromagnetic energy all around us. Birds and butterflies are able to migrate following the earth’s magnetic field. We also see it (or feel it) after walking in our stocking feet across a floor and then getting a shock when we touch something. It’s this type of energy that some believe allows the pendulum to work the way it does.
Einstein was convinced of the authenticity of dowsing. He said, “I know very well that many scientists consider dowsing as they do astrology, as a type of ancient superstition. According to my conviction this is, however, unjustified. The dowsing rod is a simple instrument which shows the reaction of the human nervous system to certain factors which are unknown to us at this time.”
Hanna Kroeger believed that it works using our subconscious mind, but no one really seems to know for sure. It seems that for every positive reference found about the pendulum, there’s also a negative one. And although many people agree with Einstein’s belief, there are also people like Martin Luther who believed that it’s the work of the devil.
My personal feeling is that what matters most is what your heart tells you. If your heart tells you to stay away from it, then do so. For people who don’t want to have anything to do with it, there is an alternative that can be used that will give the same response and allow people to find answers that they might not normally have found. It’s called kinesiology and it’s something I’m happy to teach to anyone who is interested.
My only hope is that people will try to keep an open mind and not let their feelings about the pendulum prevent them from taking responsibility for their own health and general well being. My dream is to one day see the allopathic and naturopathic communities working together towards the goal of improving ALL of our lives rather than increasing certain people's bank accounts while other bank accounts are completely wiped out in the process.
With Love and Respect,
Rev. Catherine
